A Warm Glow

He returned to visit, he wanted us to know,
He was forever grateful but had to go.
Our new little magpie, our new little friend
Had come to return showing us no end.
My husband asked, “how would we know?”
I said, “Just watch him, he came back to show!”
That no matter where, he was on the go
And it wasn’t a stare but a nice warm glow!
In his own little way, he seemed to say,
“Thank you both, I’m now on my way!”
At a time when I was down, you were there.
With your compassion and deeds of care
You built me a nest, like a mother’s womb.
It was my refuge, my living tomb.
Over there, just under and below,
The predators who prey did not know.
You made me safe, throughout the night
You sensed I was weak and could not fight.
Cats passed slowly and a few foxes too!
But I was somewhere safe, thanks to you.
Then after some days, I became strong.
You knew I wouldn’t be down under long.
I remember that day, the sun came out.
I saw my brother and gave a shout!
To see him glide down was a glorious sight,
Above the trees , he reversed his flight
So, as you look over now and you see two
It’s me and my brother smiling back at you!
